A Chinoiserie New Year's Eve

Entertaining at home tonight? Ring in the New Year with Chinoiserie style. Set the table with Chinoiserie as Joe Nye did here using a Chinoiserie tablecloth, blue Champagne flutes, Blue Canton dinner plates, and a red lantern.

A Chinoiserie New Year's Eve

One of the hottest fashion trends this Spring will be Chinoiserie. Perhaps you have a silk kimono, a brocade sheath, or another one of these great looks already in your closet that you could wear for New Year's Eve.

Chinoiserie for New Year's Eve

This week we are looking at some of my tips for ringing in the New Year with Chinoiserie flair. My favorite drink is Champagne and my favorite liquer is Domaine de Canton French Ginger Liquer with its stunning Chinoiserie bottle. Combine the two in this Canton Royale with 1 part Domaine de Canton, 3 parts Champagne, and the juice of a lemon wedge or a dash of lemon bitters in a Champagne flute and serve. For more on Domaine de Canton, click here.

A Chinoiserie Bar for the New Year

With New Year's Eve approaching and perhaps entertaining friends, this is the perfect time to think about adding a Chinoiserie bar to your home. I love the idea of a suspended faux bamboo version like the one above from Lonny or John Robshaw's antique one just below also from Lonny.

Tiffany Tulipiere

A follower of Chinoiserie Chic emailed me that she found the Tiffany elephant tulipiere pictured above at an antiques store. What a fabulous find!

More Tulipieres

The Tulipiere

The tulipiere or tulip holder is constructed to hold one flower stem per spout. Popular in the 17th century to display tulips, crocuses, and hyacinths, they are a rarity today, but a favorite of mine. A pair makes a wonderful display on a sideboard, mantel, entry table, or as a centerpiece on the dining table. I love using white or red tulips in my tulipieres at Christmas, but many other cut flowers will work as well. Check out the lovely Windsor Smith example below. Be on the lookout for a pair of antique or new ones for yourself for beautiful Chinoiserie flower arrangements, with no flower arranging skill required!

More The Chinoiserie Christmas Table

House Beautiful shows us how 15 designers set a holiday table. My favorites have Chinoiserie touches, of course! Above, Phoebe Howard uses Blanc de Chine mandarin figures. Below, Eric Kohler sets a bamboo breakfast tray with Greek key napkins.

Turquoise blue foo dogs enhance this table by Miles Redd.

Martha Angus has taken scraps of de Gournay covered with Plexiglas for a gorgeous table.
